The Sacramento City Council is set to vote on a resolution in support of the Kings and a plan to build a new sports arena with public and private investment.

Sacramento’s efforts to keep its NBA team from moving to Seattle should get some political support Tuesday night.

The Sacramento City Council is set to vote on a resolution in support of the Kings and a plan to build a new sports arena with public and private investment.

The resolution acknowledges that the Kings are “one of the most well-known employers in Sacramento and it recognizes what it calls “significant economic and fiscal benefits” generated by the professional basketball team.

The resolution “respectfully requests that the NBA support the city’s efforts to keep the Kings in Sacramento long-term and approve the sale of the Kings to an ownership group that commits to keeping the Kings in Sacramento long-term.”

that a group opposed to any direct public subsidy of a new arena is expected to testify before the council as well.

Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson says major investors are preparing a proposal to counter the binding purchase and sales agreement between the owners of the Kings and a Seattle investment group, led by Chris Hansen and Steve Ballmer.
