Seattle school district evicts school for children with special needs

Jan 23, 2014, 7:11 AM | Updated: 7:54 am

The Seattle School District is giving the boot to a school for special needs children. The Northwest Center School, which serves children of all abilities, from six months to age 12, has been until the end of June to find a new home.

“I feel like they’ve dropped a bomb on us,” school president and CEO tom Everill tells KING 5. “Move the whole community in six month is just not feasible.”

The school district says it needs the building to house a home schooling program.

But parents are worried their kids will lose something critical to their well-being.

“The amount of impact they’ve had on our lives is just amazing. I can’t imagine any other place being able to provide that,” said one mother.

The school district is trying to provide other options.
