Strong winds, snow cuts power to thousands in Puget Sound area

Thousands lost power across western Washington after a late November snowfall, rain, and high winds swept across the area.

On Tuesday night, more than 80,000 people lost power due to the weather, with 35 to 40 mph gusts of wind.

Wintry weather causing power outages across the region

As crews work to restore power to affected areas, some have started to see power return to their houses, but more than 10,00 are still left in the dark Wednesday night.

As of 10:00 p.m. Wednesday,  has 2,916 customers without power in areas scattered across the Puget Sound region.

 is reporting 6,826 customers without power in areas scattered across Snohomish County.

 is reporting 3,670 customers without power from south of Mountlake Terrace to Fremont.

Dozens of schools across the region were either closed or on a delayed start Wednesday, some due to power outages at school facilities.


There is currently a  and a  for the area, and the Seattle Department of Transportation is reporting several downed trees in the area.

Some roads have been closed due to weather conditions. The  urged drivers to use caution and take their time during the morning commute as heavy snow accumulated on roads, especially in areas around King and Snohomish counties.
