Police believe a man was drunk when he struck and killed a woman standing in the roadway on a freeway exit near Olympia early Saturday.
The collision took place around 1:15 a.m., on the exit to Black Lake Blvd. from southbound U.S. 101.
The state patrol reports the driver of a red Honda Civic, a 62-year-old Yelm man, immediately called 911.
Investigators say it appears a 42-year-old Spokane woman was standing in the roadway on or near the exit ramp.
She died at the scene.
It鈥檚 unclear why the woman was standing in the lane of travel.
Neither the driver nor a passenger in the Honda, a 64-year-old woman from Yelm, were injured.
Troopers say it鈥檚 likely the driver will face a charge of vehicular homicide.
The roadway was blocked for about three and a half hours, as the state patrol investigated.
