The Pierce County Force Investigation Team is looking into an officer-involved shooting that happened Aug. 28, when a suspect died after firing at police.

At 2:01 p.m. Tacoma PD officers were dispatched to a home at 6700 block of S Monroe St to reports of an assault.

The caller told dispatchers that the suspect was armed and might try to “shoot police,” but they had not used the weapon in the assault. The suspect was also related to the caller.

When they arrived at the scene they advised the suspect they had probable cause for an arrest on fourth-degree domestic violence charges. Police report he was not cooperative, and at 2:57 p.m. officers reported that shots had been fired saying “he is actively shooting at us.”

Less than five minutes later an officer stated over the radio “shots fired, suspect down.” At 3:08 p.m. officers were able to safely approach the suspect alongside medical personnel and found the suspect dead.

An investigation into the use of force is ongoing.
