Detectives in Parkland say a man suspected of murdering his 2-year-old daughter Wednesday morning may have had mental health issues.
“We’ll be doing some research and determining if he was actually in a mental health hospital up until last night,” said Detective Ed Troyer with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
Troyer said the suspect called 911 around 11 a.m. to say he’d killed his daughter and was about to kill himself.
When deputies arrived to the Woodmark apartment, the suspect was unconscious with a rope around his neck, but emergency responders were able to revive him.
Troyer said there were obvious signs of physical trauma to the girl, but the cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
The suspect picked his daughter up from her grandparents’ home about 9 a.m, which Troyer said was planned. He said no one reported the man behaving strangely or that he appeared to be under the influence.
The reports the man allegedly tried to kill his wife in January after finding social media messages he disapproved of. He allegedly tried to hang himself after that incident.
