A suspect has been arrested for allegedly starting a fire near the garage of Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle house.

On Monday night, police in Vancouver responded to reports of arson at the home of the city’s mayor.

According to the Vancouver Police Department, officers were called out at about 9:40 p.m. to the home of Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle and her husband, Terry Ogle, in the 3500 block of F Street.

Terry Ogle reportedly confronted the suspect who was trying to start a fire near the home’s garage while the mayor was gone at a city council meeting at the time.

Police tried to find the suspect with a K-9 team but could not locate anyone.

This is not an isolated incident, according to McEnerny-Ogle, saying earlier that day, her husband was repairing their back door after a break-in Sunday night.

“This happens to elected officials all over the place. Whether you’re in Hillsboro, Portland, Gresham, or Vancouver. All of our city council members have had threats throughout the many years. Whenever you make a decision, you usually upset at least one person,” McEnerny-Ogle said in an interview with .

The Vancouver Police Department and the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating.

Update 9/15/22 2:26 p.m.

Wednesday at approximately 12:03 a.m. Vancouver Police responded to a business at 808 Harney Street to a report of a burglary caught on security footage. A man was found by police inside the business and arrested without incident.

The suspect, Aidan Michael Murray, is believed to be a suspect in an arson investigation at Vancouver Mayor McEnerny-Ogle, but police have not said how they came to that conclusion at this time.

Murray is being held in Clark County Jail on charges of second-degree burglary, third-degree theft, second-degree malicious mischief, and first-degree arson.
