Mariners pitcher Jason Vargas joined the Brock & Salk show earlier today to discuss his three-hit complete game shutout of the Philadelphia Phillies yesterday.
After Vargas gave up a hit to All-Star slugger Ryan Howard with two outs in the ninth inning, manager Eric Wedge paid him a visit on the mound. But Wedge decided it was Vargas’ game to win, and left him in the game for the final out.
Vargas eventually got the very next batter to fly out, and the Mariners went on to win the game 2-0.
“It fired me up,” Vargas told Brock & Salk on Monday.
