The Seattle police still don’t have a new contract, and that’s because community groups are opposed to the contract that the Seattle Police Guild, SPD Chief Carmen Best, and the mayor stood up and said they had agreed on weeks ago.

We finally have a contract after years of SPD not having a contract, and now it’s on hold because we have a growing number of activists who simply hate cops. As we talked about last week, I-940, which just passed, is the most fundamentally anti-cop initiative that has ever been passed in this country. It has nothing to do with police accountability.

The message that is going out loud and clear around here is that the controlling political forces of this region are simply anti-police.

The city council is going to take a vote on Tuesday, but we have many city council members who don’t like police officers, including one who calls cops who have been exonerated murderers. Why are our politicians so opposed to law enforcement? Because the political leaders in this region have been on the side of anarchists. The further left you go, the more anti-cop you get. And Seattle police officers know this.

There is a crisis in the Seattle Police Department right now. As criminals, more and more, are taking over the streets, cops, more and more, are leaving in droves. I’m hearing this from so many people who write to the show.

It is troubling when we have a growing political lack of leadership that wants to bring as many drug criminals as possible to the city. As the cops are de-policing — either out of necessity because they don’t have the staffing levels, or because it’s their form of protest, or because they’re afraid of what is going to happen from a paperwork standpoint if they do what used to be routine police work — this is becoming a real powder keg around here.

You can only make a difference if you not only get rid of the seven city council members up for re-election next year, but also replace them with people who are more reasonable. These current leaders are taking us down an incredibly dangerous path.
