Dori: Snowstorm shows you to pay attention to whom you elect

At some point, people have to get a little more careful about whom they elect. If we get paralyzed by a few inches of snow in this “great Seattle snowstorm,” how do you think our political leaders will react when the big 9.0 earthquake hits?

They are a bunch of socialist, Marxist ideologues who get elected because we have a bunch of helpless people who can’t take care of their own lives, and rely on politicians for everything.

Here is my theory. Some of the people we have in charge are really stupid. This is happening nationwide, and right here in the Puget Sound. Case in point — Gov. Jay Inslee signed on to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) . One of the things they plan to do in the Green New Deal is upgrade or replace every building in the U.S. for state-of-the-art energy efficiency. Does that include every farmer’s barn in Iowa?

RELATED: Seattle snow panic a result of socialism

If my daughters had written something like this Green New Deal in middle school, I would have felt like my wife and I had failed. A reasonably intelligent middle-schooler could not write something this stupid. Maybe a brainwashed third- or fourth-grader. This is what socialism is all about — spewing out insanity.

Here’s what else the Green New Deal says. They would guarantee economic security for all who are unable or unwilling to work. I don’t know that I ever thought I’d see the day we’d be proposing guaranteed security for people who are healthy, able, and simply unwilling to work.

Ocasio-Cortez and the politicians behind the Green New Deal stated, “We set a goal to get to net-zero, rather than zero emissions, in 10 years because we aren’t sure that we’ll be able to fully get rid of farting cows and airplanes that fast.” Yep, and this is what our governor signed on to support.

It’s interesting that Jay Inslee is one of the supporters of this document, given that he has been flying all around the country on his pre-presidential campaign, burning up all the carbon that goes with it.

But it comes back to what I’ve been saying about lack of self-sufficiency during this snowstorm. You cannot rely on politicians to look out for you during tough times. And we’re not even talking all that tough — we’re talking about a few days of pretty snow.

What’s going to happen during the big earthquake or the next volcano eruption? What’s going to happen when the power grid goes down? If a few inches of snow are all it takes to throw us into a panic, I hate to even contemplate it.

No politician cares one one-millionth as much about your life as you should. You’ve got to take care of yourself.

US military shifts messaging in Africa, telling allies to prepare to stand more on their own

TAN TAN, Morocco (AP) — The U.S. military is backing off its usual talk of good governance and countering insurgencies’ underlying causes, instead leaning into a message that its fragile allies in Africa must be ready to stand more on their own.
