Dori: Tim Eyman’s chair explanation is bizarre

Feb 20, 2019, 5:57 AM

YouTube video

On Friday when we were on the air, we got an allegation and video of Tim Eyman from an Office Depot in Lacey.

You can see video of the incident here.

In the video, it’s clearly Eyman, wearing one of his signature “Let the Voters Decide” shirts in bright red. He walks in the store, which has two sets of sliding doors. In between the two sets of doors is an entryway with an office chair on display. Eyman sits in the chair and then stands up to wheel the chair out of the store. Supposedly, he loaded it into his vehicle, then went back in the store to buy two printers; when an employee offered to load the printers in Eyman’s car, he told the employee he didn’t want anyone near the car.

Now Tim Eyman’s attorneys have responded to the filing of charges.

Since then, we have reached out to Office Depot in an effort to return the chair and/or pay for it, as its removal without payment was accidental.

We also reached out to the City of Lacey to explain the circumstances of the chair鈥檚 accidental removal, but due to the three day holiday weekend were unable to do so.

How could it be accidental? You can’t accidentally steal a chair. It’s bizarre. And you can’t retroactively pay for the chair. That’s not the way these things work.

Then we received Eyman’s own sworn declaration.

I did not, shortly after giving legislative testimony in Olympia,聽walk into an Office Depot聽in Lacey wearing a bright red ‘Let聽The聽Voters Decide’ t-shirt, smile for the cameras, and聽steal a $70 chair just聽moments聽before spending $300 on 2 printers and after getting some life changing good news [sic]. The reason that doesn鈥檛 make any sense is because it doesn鈥檛 make any sense. It鈥檚 ridiculous, it鈥檚 insane, it鈥檚 completely unbelievable.

As the video shows, I went back into the store to pay for it. That鈥檚 right, rather than hopping in my car for a daring get away after my successful bank heist, I walked back into the store and inserted my debit card into the chip reader (Jesse James I鈥檓 not).

I think what Attorney General Bob Ferguson has done to Eyman is reprehensible. Ferguson has launched a personal war against Tim Eyman. He was tearful on our show when he talked about his divorce and bankruptcy. The state does have an unlimited amount of money and lawyers, and has sought to destroy the guy, all because he’s tried to restrict the flow of money to government.

But, Tim Eyman has helped them out a fair amount by being destroy-able, like this. When he does stuff like taking a chair from an Office Depot, and then uses as his defense, “It doesn’t make any sense because it doesn’t make any sense,” he doesn’t help himself. This is a very odd and sad story.
