Want to get hired by Washington state or keep a state job?

A 聽issued by Gov. Jay Inslee says you鈥檙e going to need to be vaccinated 鈥� and continue to get boosted against COVID-19 before July 2023 – or you can鈥檛 work for the state or a state contractor.

鈥淚t鈥檚 mindboggling,鈥� Washington Policy Center鈥檚 Elizabeth Hovde told The Dori Monson Show after reviewing the memo.

鈥淸COVID] is no longer a public health crisis,鈥� Hovde told Dori鈥檚 listeners. 鈥淭his is not reasonable or appropriate. It doesn鈥檛 serve the public or the state workforce.鈥�

The move, according to Hovde, is bold because the governor is making the requirement permanent. And new to his mandates: keeping boosters up to date, as recommended by the Center for Disease Control. While the governor鈥檚 office has not offered any clarification, this could mean that to be an eligible state worker, you would need a COVID booster every three months.

鈥淪taffing shortages in the public sector and among healthcare workers are exacerbated by the governor鈥檚 vaccine mandate 鈥� but he鈥檚 harming state services and ruining careers,鈥� Hovde continued. 鈥淚t makes no sense.鈥�

Inslee 鈥� who has held emergency powers in the state for almost 850 days 鈥� also wants other leaders in Washington to follow his lead.

Inslee鈥檚 memo also calls 鈥渦pon our higher education institutions, boards and commissions, and other separately elected officials to consider similar requirements within their agencies and jurisdictions.鈥�

Hovde, a policy analyst and director for WPC鈥檚 Centers for Health Care and Worker Rights, told Dori鈥檚 listeners that the directive 鈥渏ust blows my mind.鈥� She writes about it .

鈥淎 lot of people have lost their livelihood and their career because of this mandate,鈥� she said. 鈥淲e should be saying `no.鈥� We鈥檙e coming into a recession. This is the last time we need people to be out of work.鈥�
