Making money as a zombie

Apr 25, 2014, 4:16 PM | Updated: 4:36 pm

There’s a chance for you to add “zombie” to your resume.

A TV Series called “Z Nation” will be filming in Spokane soon and they need 1,300 undead to help depict America post-zombie apocalypse.

Producer Rich Cowan of the production company “North by Northwest,” based in Spokane, says the 13 episode series is unique to all of the other zombie movies and shows out there.

“It takes place about four years after the Zombie Apocalypse in the US,” Cowan explains. “It has very great, strong characters. It’s about survival, it’s about hope, and it’s about saving humanity.”

Cowan’s production company has produced about 50 small feature films, and business is booming for the lower budget, $4 to $5 million dollar films for TV, cable networks, Netflix and others.

For this production, though, he says they’re not focusing on the big name talent, but on the local talent here in Washington.

“I’m happy to say that a good percentage, probably about half of the lead actors, will be from Washington. That’s quite something,” says Cowan.

If you don’t quite have the chops for a lead role, Cowin says they’ll need lots and lots of undead extras as well.

He suggests going through the agency Big Fish Northwest. You can post a headshot online there. No word on if eating brains is a necessary skill to get the job.

Some of the ³ÉÈËXÕ¾ staff might have a shot at the gig. Seattle’s Morning News Host Dave Ross has spent some time honing his zombie skills.
