Father’s Day gift ideas

“Father’s Day is this Sunday, and a lot of you are probably scrambling for ideas when it comes to gifts,” Ursula said. “In case you missed it, The Seattle Times asked some local dads to share the best Father’s Day gift they have ever received. We love some of these stories and thought we would share some.”

An article from recapped a variety of unique gifts from Seattle families that could inspire creative gift ideas.

“There was one dad who got a rainbow-painted chunk of the Kingdome after it was imploded in 2000, so his five-year-old gave it to him as a paperweight, and he kept it on his desk at Boeing until the day he retired,” Ursula said. “Now it’s on the family bookshelf, a little piece of Seattle and fatherhood history all rolled into one. I love that idea.”

The , located at Pier 54 on Alaskan Way, is a Seattle staple for knick-knacks and other fun trinkets, boasting聽an astounding 3,300 positive reviews on Google.

“Another dad shared how his son once surprised him with a canoe trip to Duck Island on Green Lake, because you’ve always wondered what was out there,” Ursula said. “Great idea, again, something that doesn’t cost much, and it’s just basically giving your time.”

Whether it’s a day-trip to Duck Island in the heart of Green Lake or a cozy dinner at home, the time spent with family is equally valuable as any gift.

“I think that the best Father’s Day gift is something that the father loves and appreciates, but it’s subjective for every other father,” Gee said. “I think the best Father’s Days that I’ve had have been over the last five, seven years, when my favorite meal gets made, maybe a salmon salad.”

recommended a lamb smash burger recipe for this year’s Father’s Day festivities, a quick and easy dinner idea to give fathers a chance to christen that new grill.

“The person who eats the same thing every day and has the same schedule likes to do those things. So he’s usually easy to figure out,” Gee said. “He wants a new smoker or a new grill. He wants something new that goes in the yard.”

‘Society doesn’t care’: Gee and Ursula condemn Royal India’s wage theft /gee-and-ursula/royal-india-wage-theft/4098568 Fri, 13 Jun 2025 00:15:41 +0000 /?p=4098568 A Seattle restaurant, Royal India, is facing for stealing nearly $45,000 from employees. The owners of Royal India have been penalized more than $125,000 since 2019.

“There’s one kind of crime that we just don’t pay enough attention to, and that is wage theft,” Ursula said on 成人X站 Newsradio’s “The Gee and Ursula Show.” “Owners of Royal India restaurants in Lynwood and Kirkland now face 10 felony theft charges, and these stem from over 40 complaints over a three-year period, including bounced paychecks and wages that were never paid.”

More than $11 million has been paid in damages to impacted workers over the past decade, according to . Approximately 320 investigations have been conducted into Royal India in that time span.

“I just don’t think we as a society care when it happens, because if we did, we would make more of a deal about this,” 成人X站 host Gee Scott said. “We care when we hear about a lady shoplifting, taking some bananas from the store, or if the lady takes $50 to $100 out of the till. We care about that.”

One-and-a-half billion dollars in stolen wages had been recovered from impacted U.S. workers between 2021 and 2023, according to the .

“But when we hear about employer wage theft at this restaurant and the restaurant is supposed to pay a fine, some of us will still go eat at that restaurant,” Gee said. “Why are we still doing this with tips? The tips are to supplement the income of the servers and the staff, but the theft is usually always associated with the tips.”

Where do your tips go?

Tipping culture has been at the forefront of public outcry in recent years, often perceived as excessive and unnecessary.

“I know that the people who don’t want to get rid of tipping are people who actually get the tips, because there’s no way that an employer is going to make up the amount that they can get in tips, especially in some of the higher-end restaurants. Forget about it,” Ursula said.

Mosquito-free world? 成人X站 hosts weigh risks of a world where the pest is extinct /kiro-opinion/mosquito-free-world-kiro/4098023 Wed, 11 Jun 2025 12:00:27 +0000 /?p=4098023 Scientists can now use gene editing technologies to spread infertility among female mosquitoes, reported last week. This means the pesky insects could be wiped out鈥攂ut should they be?

While researchers focus on , critics, like 成人X站 Newsradio fill-in host Mike Lewis, see this as causing potential risks to the ecosystem.

“If you decide to eliminate any single thing, you’re going to have a domino effect because that evolved to eat something, and something evolved to eat it,” he said while filling in on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio. “This is the way the planet Earth works, and the idea of eliminating that, I get it, we should work on trying to solve problems with malaria that are significant. Dengue as well, another disease carried by insects, but neither of those should be solved by killing out the population that carries the thing.”

While Lewis was thinking long-term, 成人X站 Newsradio fill-in host Angela Poe Russell brought it back to the present.

“You’re thinking long term, and you’re being strategic, but this is a question for ‘in the moment,'” she responded. “In the moment, do you want to live in a mosquito-free world? Of course, we want to live in a mosquito-free world, and you’re asking us to look at the consequences.”

Finding a compromise for a completely mosquito-free world

However, Poe Russell wondered if researchers could find a compromise.

“There are several things in nature that I could do without, but the reality is, it is part of the system, a food source, or something,” she said. “Could there be some kind of a balance where we’re able, because any kind of species, there can be too many of them? Is it possible that we can reduce the amount?”

Mike proposed not to exterminate the insect, but to eliminate their breeding areas, which could be a solution to managing malaria. He explained his late uncle was an entomologist at the University of Panama and studied mosquito vectors.

“He said, ‘You want to eliminate malaria, you eliminate discarded tires,’ because discarded tires pool water, and he said that you cannot build a better incubator for mosquitoes than old rubber tires sitting in the sun,” Lewis shared. “He said, ‘If you could eliminate that, you’re going to have malaria at a level that is not epidemic level. You’re going to have malaria that is completely manageable.’ Now it doesn’t necessarily cure the malaria, but you cure the spread. The spread, in part, is stagnant water.”

‘Why do we wait until a tragedy?’ Gee and Ursula urge for better veteran support amid manhunt for Army Ranger /kiro-opinion/manhunt-for-army-ranger/4097679 Tue, 10 Jun 2025 12:00:31 +0000 /?p=4097679 A manhunt is currently underway for Travis Decker, a former Army Ranger accused of kidnapping and killing his three daughters. According to court records obtained by 成人X站 Newsradio, Decker faced challenges after transitioning out of the military.

Gee and Ursula urge veteran support after Army Ranger allegedly kills daughters

“First, I want to just say this before we dig into this Ursula, it’s tragic that those girls are no longer here. Those precious lives are gone,” 成人X站 host Gee Scott said. “I think everyone who’s listening right now, you probably wish that there’s something that you could do to prevent something like this.”

As the search for Decker stretches into Day 10, with more than 100 local, state, and federal officers and agents actively looking for him, both Gee Scott and Ursula Reutin, co-hosts of “The Gee and Ursula Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio, urged for better support when it comes to veterans.

“Let’s all want to do a better job of helping our veterans, helping our people that are really struggling in this country,” Gee said. “Let’s try to do less social programs being divested from. When you’re trying to trim the fat in Veterans Affairs (VA), you’re trying to get rid of workers and things like that, because you’re saying that potentially the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) comes in and does all these things. Let’s put more of a spotlight on the people that are struggling and understand, because what we can’t do is鈥攚e can’t wait until it’s too late.”

In the months leading to the three sisters’ deaths, Whitney Decker鈥檚 attorney, Arianna Cozart, requested a judge to order a domestic violence evaluation and a full psychiatric assessment for Travis Decker during a hearing evaluating his custody rights.

In response, Travis Decker acknowledged his struggle with housing instability and described the challenges he faced transitioning from his career in the military, where he served as an Army Ranger, into civilian life.

鈥淲hen I was separated from active duty, I tried to figure out how to live as a civilian,鈥 he told the court. 鈥淚 didn鈥檛 have family, friends, or any support鈥攅specially moving to a state where I had no one to lean on or even a couch to sleep on.鈥

“Why do we wait until there is a tragedy, when this should be coming on the front end?” Ursula asked. “People have sacrificed their lives, their livelihoods, in service of our country, and they should not be forgotten.

“Now there are going to be a lot of people who say, ‘Look, a lot of people suffer from PTSD. That’s not an excuse. They wouldn’t go to the extent that this person did,” Ursula added. “But that is why I hope they find him, and I hope they find him alive, and he needs to pay the price. But it raises questions about what kind of help is there for our veterans. For people who put their lives on the line and can’t get help when they are suffering?”

Poe Russell urges delaying smartphones for kids: ‘The longer you can fend off this beast the better’ /kiro-opinion/gee-and-u-kids-off-smartphones/4096336 Sun, 08 Jun 2025 13:03:59 +0000 /?p=4096336 When is the right time to give your child a smartphone?

A recent聽 from the Seattle Children鈥檚 Research Institute found students spend about 25% of the school day on their phones. 成人X站 fill-in host Angela Poe Russell urged delaying cell phone use as long as possible.

“Knowing what I know now, I tell young parents with young kids, if you think you’re gonna break down and give them [a smartphone], call me,” she said. “The longer you can fend off this beast, the better.”

成人X站 host raises concerns about smartphone use

Angela pointed out that irresponsible acts by kids can occur if they receive a smartphone too early.

“This is where all the trouble happens. The kids get together, and you think they’re just going to be hanging out, watching a movie, playing, and what happens is, they’re all on their phones,” she said.

Angela also mentioned the constraints kids have without smartphones.

“Everything is centered around technology, I’ll give you an example. My kid wants to go have pizza after school, all these places won’t take cash, so then you have to either give them a credit card, or I gave my kid access to Apple Pay,” she shared.

‘Have the kids repeat senior year’: Enumclaw High School’s senior prank sparks gun scare /kiro-opinion/enumclaw-prank-shooting/4095829 Thu, 05 Jun 2025 01:05:31 +0000 /?p=4095829 Three suspects broke into Enumclaw High School on May 31, wearing masks and brandishing what appeared to be a firearm, and then told investigators they were planning a prank.

“Authorities have apprehended the teens responsible, and police say the kids were preparing for a senior prank,” 成人X站 fill-in host Angela Poe Russell said. “It turns out the gun in the video was an airsoft pistol.”

School shooting awareness

Poe Russell compared the Enumclaw prank to past school shooting instances.

“It is fair considering the rise in school shootings, we’ve had more than one case where there was some kind of warning, the kid denied it, and next thing you know, here we are,” Poe Russell said.

成人X站 fill-in host Mike Lewis proposed a punishment that avoids the suspects facing criminal trials.

“I have a solution for this: Have the kids repeat senior year,” Lewis said. “This is what I’d say to those kids. ‘Sorry, not graduating this year. You get a chance to do this whole year all over again.’ For the benefit of everyone to see that you’ve learned your lesson and are not going to do something as mind-bendingly stupid as this again.”

Can a couple survive cheating? You have only one soulmate? Gee and Ursula debunk common relationship ‘myths’ /gee-and-ursula/relationship-myths-debunked/4093596 Mon, 02 Jun 2025 12:03:55 +0000 /?p=4093596 Everyone has a soul mate. Cheating ends relationships. Breakups mean the relationship was a failure. These are common beliefs about relationships, but experts suggest we’re often wrong.

Psychotherapist Lohani Noor told that with the right amount of work, even partners that cheat on each other can salvage the relationship. “Gee and Ursula Show” co-host Ursula Reutin agreed that it’s certainly possible in some cases. But you have to do the work.

“You can recover if you do a lot of introspection, probably a lot of therapy, and both commit to making the relationship a priority,” said Ursula. “As someone who was the child in a relationship where there was infidelity, there are things that can be very damaging to your children as well… If you don’t commit to being better to each other… a lot of that anger ends up being absorbed by your children.”

Can you have more than one soulmate?

Another common belief is that a person only has one soulmate. But co-host Gee Scott disagrees.

“A lot of times we are out here searching for that someone… and then you find that someone, and then you find another one, and you find another one,” Gee explained.聽 “And you find yourself realizing, wait a minute, the last three, four relationships that I was in, they all kind of ended the same way, in the same type of arguments that are happening, because it’s coming from inside the house…Once you completely find yourself, it’s easier to find that soulmate.”

Gee and Ursula also agreed that a breakup does not equal failure.

“It might have just been a season. It might have lasted 5 years, 10 years, 20 years… you might have gotten children out of it together. You might have gotten a career out of it together,” argued Gee. “Every relationship doesn’t always have to be, ‘oh that was a failure.’ There can be success in a relationship that did not continue to make it.”

“You’re exactly right,” said Ursula.

How many dogs is too many? Ursula says commercial walkers should have a limit /kiro-opinion/commercial-dog-walkers-limit/4093774 Sun, 01 Jun 2025 12:03:45 +0000 /?p=4093774 Seattle is known for its dog lovers, and some locals have built entire careers walking the city’s countless pups. But should there be a limit for commercial dog walkers?

“Yes, I think the limit should be how many you can handle,” Ursula Reutin, co-host of “The Gee and Ursula Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio, said.

The debate stemmed from a in The Seattle Times, where a reader shared her issues with the Magnuson Off Leash Area.

“The other day, close to 40 dogs were congregated with multiple dog walkers in a narrow area of the park. A vicious dogfight ensued, resulting in one of the dog walkers being bitten until bloody. It was a dangerous situation for everyone, and it happens almost daily at this park,” the reader wrote, in part.

A limit for commercial dog walkers?

Ursula said there should be a dog cut-off for walkers, though she couldn’t say exactly what that number should be.

“I wouldn’t put a number on it, because there are people who could handle eight dogs really well, depending on the size and the temperament of each dog, and then there are people who would do a horrible job with just four dogs,” she said. “So I don’t want to put a number limit. It would be you do whatever you think you can handle, but if you can’t handle it, there is going to be a ticket for you, a citation. There’s going to be a punishment if you are not able to handle your dogs.”

Gee Scott ‘not shocked’ by King County assessor’s restraining order, says ex called him ‘a little weird’ /kiro-opinion/king-county-assessor-order/4094196 Sat, 31 May 2025 14:05:06 +0000 /?p=4094196 Gee Scott, co-host of “The Gee and Ursula Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio, said he wasn’t surprised that King County Assessor John Wilson is facing another restraining order.

“I know the former girlfriend. I know her personally, and that girlfriend has said to me before, ‘Yeah, I don’t know about this guy. He’s a little different. He’s a little weird.’ This is two years ago. So I’m not shocked when I hear this news, and I’m not shocked to hear that other people are calling for his resignation,” he said.

Harrell calls for King County assessor’s resignation

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell urged Wilson to step down Thursday, stating in a news release that he was “appalled by the stories of County Assessor Wilson鈥檚 conduct.”

“While he has a right to due legal process, the published allegations are disqualifying for public office,” the statement continued. “We need to send a clear message to survivors of intimate partner abuse that this type of behavior by people in positions of trust is not tolerated.”

Gee pointed out that Wilson announced his candidacy for King County Executive.

“This is the same dude that started to talk about crime. This is the same dude that wanted to get on there, as he gets ready to run for executive,” he said.

Bad behavior has been given a pass

Gee believes politicians should be held to a higher standard, but unfortunately, they have gotten away with bad behavior for years.

“The problem is for so long, it’s been given a pass,” he said.

‘Definitely a bad apple’: Gee, Ursula celebrate Snoqualmie Police firing its chief /gee-and-ursula/snoqualmie-police-chief-2/4093921 Fri, 30 May 2025 13:49:09 +0000 /?p=4093921 Snoqualmie Police Chief Brian Lynch was fired last month after an independent investigation found he violated the city鈥檚 policies on harassment, ethics, and professional conduct repeatedly.

Among his repeated offenses and violations were inappropriate sexual remarks, unprofessional behavior toward subordinates, and a failure to maintain workplace boundaries, according to city records obtained by .

“Big respect to the Snoqualmie Police Department,” 成人X站 host Gee Scott said on “The Gee and Ursula Show.” “Love everything that you all are doing. You guys came right out and let it be known that this person is not what you stand for. You didn’t let it linger or anything, because you knew having someone connected to your agency would just be a bad thing. Thank you. Thank you for proving a lot of people who have hope that people will be transparent, that is how you operate.”

Examples of ethical violations from Snoqualmie Police Chief Brian Lynch

According to the 10-page executive summary of the investigation obtained by 成人X站 7, he referred to female members of the public as “bitches,” asked a female subordinate if she hurt her hand “jerking off her husband” while making a crude gesture, and would frequently comment on female employees鈥 and visitors鈥 physical appearance and rate them on a numerical scale. He also made a sexual joke in front of a teenage intern during her farewell lunch. When people pushed back on the comment, he dismissed concerns by saying she “heard worse.”

During an interview with a female police recruit, he said she “couldn鈥檛 keep her legs together” after learning she had several children, according to multiple witnesses.

He also allegedly made jokes toward a mobility-impaired employee, including repeating the phrase, “Run Forrest, run,” and had at least one on-duty officer in uniform attend his fantasy football draft party.

Lynch filed for an injunction, claiming several of the findings were inaccurate or exaggerated, which could hurt his wrongful termination lawsuit. He also stated he wanted the chance to get training to change his management style, but was terminated instead.

“Imagine him thinking that, ‘Hey, we’ll just give you a little training because all that behavior can be trained out of you.’ I don’t think so,” Ursula Reutin said. “That was definitely a bad apple.”

‘You don鈥檛 check in, you get left’: Gee and Ursula believe airline’s new rule will boost efficiency /kiro-opinion/gee-and-ursula-united/4093191 Thu, 29 May 2025 12:00:48 +0000 /?p=4093191 United Airlines will soon require passengers to check in at least 45 minutes before departure. Those who fail to check in by the deadline could be denied boarding, according to USA Today.

Gee Scott and Ursula Reutin, co-hosts of “The Gee and Ursula Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio, supported the stricter check-in time.

“What’s happening is you have a bunch of people that are late, a bunch of people who are late no matter what,” Gee said. “They’re not accountable. They use their forefinger, and they should be using their thumb. So because of this, Ursula, I think this is one that you and I gonna agree on. I want you to be on time, and I want airlines to be more efficient. This will help people be more efficient. And you just get left. You don’t check in, you get left.”

Ursula did agree with Gee, hopeful the new rule will lead to fewer delays.

“Good for them for doing this,” Ursula said. “The real reason, though, is more people are traveling. And the worst thing is, when you are delayed, because there are those last minute鈥擨 love it when the airlines are able to get everybody in their seats quickly, and they’re like, ‘OK, we’ve got all our passengers. Ready to go.’ That is the best feeling. The worst is when they’re just waiting and waiting.”

Gee and Ursula say checking in is simple as they discuss United’s new rule

Gee added that checking in is not that difficult.

“Can you just check in the night before the 24 hours, when you’re allowed to check in, that way your airline knows who’s gonna be coming,” he insisted.

But what time do Gee and Ursula get to the airport?

“Your boy gets to the airport at least two hours early,” Gee said.

“Yeah, even for domestic flights,” Ursula responded.

And for the people who don’t mind cutting it close to get to their flight, Ursula calls them “eternal optimists.”

Will King County’s new park ranger program make a difference? Ursula thinks so /kiro-opinion/king-countys-park-ranger-program/4092389 Tue, 27 May 2025 12:00:59 +0000 /?p=4092389 King County’s park ranger program is launching in June, with six rangers serving as public safety resources across county parks, according to from King County.

While some might argue having only six rangers is a waste, Ursula Reutin, co-host of “The Gee and Ursula Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio, is a fan of the idea.

“I love this idea just as much as I love the idea of having the ambassadors in Seattle’s International District, or having all those ambassadors, which come with a big expense in downtown Seattle,” she shared. “But I think that they have helped improve a lot. I absolutely agree that when you see people in uniform, you do just have a better sense of security.”

Gee questions need for King County’s park ranger program

However, Gee Scott, co-host of “Gee and Ursula,” believes the parks around King County aren’t that dangerous.

“Look, we’re in the state of Washington, this is not really a dangerous鈥擨 mean, look, yes, there’s crime everywhere, but I don’t look at any of these parks and be like I wanna stay away from there,” he said.

Yet, Ursula could think of a couple of parks that could use the extra rangers.

“Two that come to mind for me, and I think they’re two of the most beautiful spots, Golden Gardens would be one. I love Golden Gardens, but once the sun starts going down…and then the other one would be Alki Beach,” she said.

Gee did have to agree with one place feeling a little unsafe.

‘A lot of uncertainty’: Gee and Ursula analyze ‘dramatic’ spike in early Social Security claims /kiro-opinion/spike-social-security-claims/4091601 Mon, 26 May 2025 12:12:34 +0000 /?p=4091601 Retirees are exceedingly worried about their Social Security. It’s translating to early filing for social security benefits

According to , 276,000 more people have filed for Social Security benefits so far this fiscal year鈥攁 13% increase from last year.

Ursula Reutin, co-host of “The Gee and Ursula Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio, said the spike in claims is being driven by 鈥渇ear.鈥

“There is a lot of uncertainty, and unfortunately, I will say unfortunately for most who are taking it earlier than expected, that that wasn’t the overall strategy when you were figuring out your retirement,” she shared.

Social Security system on track to get nearly 4 million claims for 2025

According to The New York Times, citing The Urban Institute, the Social Security system is on track to get nearly four million claims for 2025, which is five times the average increase of 3% annually over the past 12 years. Officials called the spike “dramatic” and cited anxiety as a contributing factor.

“There’s chaos,” co-host Gee Scott said. “Our text line is telling us a lot of people have gone to take their money early because they are afraid they weren’t going to get it, even though they knew and know that they would get less if they draw on that money earlier, but they didn’t want to take any chances.”

Gee wishes more people had access to financial advisors.

“The part that breaks my heart are the many Americans in this country who do not have someone to help them along through this process. They got scared, they got nervous, and some of them either sold their shares of stock or they drew early on their social security,” he said.

‘Get rid of the d*** pennies’: Gee Scott celebrates U.S. Treasury’s decision /kiro-opinion/pennies-us-treasury/4091523 Sun, 25 May 2025 12:00:35 +0000 /?p=4091523 The U.S. Treasury announced it will phase out the penny, putting a stop to adding one-cent coins into circulation, the department said in a statement Thursday.

With the final order of penny blanks ordered earlier this month, the will continue to manufacture pennies until the inventory of penny blanks is depleted. This decision is expected to save the government approximately $56 million annually.

“We’re spending millions to make a coin nobody uses,” 成人X站 host Gee Scott said. “That’s like turning on the heat in your house in July. Get rid of them d*** pennies. It makes no sense.”

The U.S. Mint first created the penny in 1793. In 1909, Abraham Lincoln became the first president featured on our coins in honor of his 100th birthday.

“I am going to argue that men hate coins. I think that’s why both of you have just gone on this whole bandwagon of let’s get rid of the pennies,” 成人X站 host Ursula Reutin told Gee and Andrew Lanier, the producer of “The Gee and Ursula Show.” “Sometimes, I’ll even give exact change. If someone says something is $3.67, I like the option of giving them exact change.”

“Jeez, how much has your life been wasted trying to find 67 cents?” Gee asked. “You don’t feel like you’re wasting time? I would rather pay $4 than $3.67.”

Well, guess what? You will be, because they aren’t going to be rounding anything down,” Ursula responded. “If it used to be $3.26, it’s going to now be $4. They’re not going to eat the 26 cents. I’m actually someone who believes in carrying cash and coin.”

Gee and Ursula blast state budget that ‘relies too much on taxes,’ hurts small businesses: ‘It’s exhausting’ /kiro-opinion/gee-ursula-washington-budget/4090557 Wed, 21 May 2025 23:00:29 +0000 /?p=4090557 Washington Governor Bob Ferguson signed a massive $77.9 billion operating budget for the next two years. The governor also signed 聽the state鈥檚聽capital budget, coming in at $7.3 billion, along with聽the state鈥檚聽transportation budget.

Gee Scott and Ursula Reutin, co-hosts of “The Gee and Ursula Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio, believe the new budget is too reliant on taxes and will only cause more damage to those already struggling.

“I’m going to take up today for a lot of the small businesses around here that are being asked to continue with their tax increase, so they’re being burdened by paying extra taxes,” Gee said. “People with lower incomes are asked to pay a higher percentage of their income on taxes. Meanwhile, if you have the means and you have the money, you’re able to dodge these taxes.”

Ursula agreed with Gee that the budget will hurt those who can’t afford higher taxes.

“I think this is a budget that relies entirely too much on taxes, that will affect most those who really can’t afford them鈥$9 billion of new taxes, and we’re still increasing our spending,” she noted. “Governor Ferguson says it could have been worse. He says he pushed back on a $21 billion tax package that Democrats had originally proposed. And he says, ‘You know what? This is a significant improvement.’ I say that is little consolation for people who are just really not able to afford some of these things that are coming down the pike.”

Ursula questions if Washington budget is being spent wisely

Ursula also questioned if the additional spending is being thoroughly reviewed.

“I’m a big proponent of education, nearly $1 billion of additional spending. Have we made sure that the current funding is being spent wisely and we’re getting our money’s worth when it comes to that? I mean, it’s like everyone has to make tough decisions, and this idea of just going back to the wall and saying, ‘Hey, we’re just going to keep increasing our spending, and we’re going to keep increasing your taxes.’ It’s exhausting,” Ursula said.

‘This is not America’: Olympia man detained at Sea-Tac sparks fierce response from Gee and Ursula /kiro-opinion/sea-tac-detention-olympia-man/4090136 Wed, 21 May 2025 00:51:52 +0000 /?p=4090136 An Olympia man who moved to the U.S. from the Philippines as a child, and has a green card, has been detained at the Seattle Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac) for days, . The action outraged not only the Filipino community, but also Gee and Ursula.

“I feel bad for this family,” Gee Scott, co-host of “The Gee and Ursula Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio, said Tuesday. “I feel bad for the person that’s detained, and I feel bad for his wife.”

, Maximo Londonio was detained after returning from vacation with his family. His family, reported the media outlet, believes the detainment may be due to nonviolent convictions from when Londonio was younger.

Gee had some advice for those with green cards.

“Right now, if you have a green card and you have a conviction on your record, I would give serious pause to travel plans, because right now with this administration, you all are seeing it play out,” Gee said. “All bets are off, even with the green card and married to a citizen, if you think, ‘Hmm, I want to call an immigration lawyer and see what they think,’ just the question alone, should probably have you put on pause for your travel plans. I feel sorry for this person, I really do, but I wish they would have listened to themselves.”

Ursula聽infuriated after local man detained at Sea-Tac

Ursula Reutin, co-host of “Gee and Ursula,” had a sharp response.

“I find that outrageous,” Ursula said. “I feel sorry for them, too. This is not America. This should not be America. This is where we are today. But I’m sorry, they were here legally. They served their time. They served whatever it was from previous convictions, they are being held as if they are criminals. They have green cards. They are here legally.”

‘Nobody’s fist fighting anymore’: Bouncer sees shift in Pioneer Square violence /gee-and-ursula/bouncer-pioneer-square/4089916 Wed, 21 May 2025 00:15:58 +0000 /?p=4089916 A mass shooting outside a nightclub in Seattle鈥檚 Pioneer Square early Saturday left three people dead and one critically injured, with no suspects identified or arrested.

“A lot of the issues right now are in the parking lots, the clubs are closing down, or incidents are happening where groups are forced out of the club, and one group will meet the other group in the parking lot, or eventually they’ll meet somewhere,” Bouncer Will Stowers told “The Gee and Ursula Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio. “We just need more security presence out there.”

Stowers has worked as a bouncer for many years and runs a company that provides bouncers to clubs across the city. He told “Gee and Ursula” that one of his security guards was nearby during the shooting.

“We have a bar that we take care of in Pioneer Square and normally we do a checklist of, I check on my group chat and make sure everybody’s OK and checking in and checking out,” he shared. “And normally, when stuff like this happens, we do a bro check, make sure everybody is OK. And eventually this happened and and I guess the result of this was fatal.”

Bouncer details how Pioneer Square has changed

Stowers also told listeners that he used to hang out with friends in Pioneer Square when he was younger, but things have changed since then.

“There used to be fist fights here and there, but nobody’s fighting these days, and nobody’s fist fighting,” Stowers said. “Everybody’s running into the parking lot or having guns concealed, and it’s mostly the younger crowd.”

Stowers said his primary concern is patrons who are carrying weapons, which is why he prioritizes security with a thorough check-in process: IDs are verified, guests are patted down, and bags are searched.

‘Let鈥檚 go rob a bank!’: PNW serial bank robber details life of crime鈥攁nd why he turned himself in /gee-and-ursula/pnw-serial-bank-robber/4088209 Mon, 19 May 2025 12:00:22 +0000 /?p=4088209 Mike, not his real name, committed 14 robberies in the Pacific Northwest. He just can鈥檛 remember when exactly he started.聽

鈥淪o, we鈥檙e going back to 1984? 鈥83? Somewhere back in there,鈥 Mike told “The Gee and Ursula Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio Thursday.聽

Mike, a loyal 成人X站 Newsradio listener, heard about a woman serial bank robber on the loose in Seattle, so he decided now was a good time to retell his story.聽

鈥淚 grew up in a broken home and basically didn鈥檛 feel like life was going as I expected,鈥 Mike said. 鈥淭he bills piled up, the marriage crumbled, and that just seemed like an easy way out.鈥澛

How does someone become a serial bank robber?

He turned to bank robbing because he had experience on the other side of the counter.聽

鈥淚 literally worked in a bank as a teller,鈥 Mike said. 鈥淢arried, drowning in debt. One-bedroom apartment, two kids. You鈥檙e sitting there dealing with money all day. I鈥檓 looking at a quarter million dollars sitting in this vault and thinking 鈥榶ep, that鈥檚 the place to get it.鈥欌

Robbing banks proved easier than he anticipated.聽

鈥淚 called in sick, I believe one day, and I went out and robbed two banks,鈥 Mike said. 鈥淚 actually was only going to do one. The adrenaline was just so high, I was like 鈥業’ve got to do another one.鈥欌

Mike got away with six robberies before turning himself in. He thinks it was six anyway; he can鈥檛 quite remember. The total 鈥渆arnings鈥 from this first run were somewhere between $20,000 and $30,000.聽

Serial bank robber turns himself in鈥攏ot for the reason you think

He decided to turn himself in because he wanted a divorce, and he figured his wife would use the bank robbery as blackmail ahead of any proceedings. However, after 18 months in prison, he got right back to it.聽

鈥淚 was sitting there one night with a buddy,鈥 Mike said, 鈥淚 was living in a 20-foot travel trailer, and we got talking about money and stuff. We both looked at each other at the same time and said 鈥楲et鈥檚 go rob a bank!”

That job netted the pair about $230,000. After that, it got hard to stop.聽

鈥淵ou start not worrying about work,鈥 Mike said. 鈥淵ou start not worrying about anything. You start just reaching into this paper bag and grabbing out a packet of money. OK, well, that bag runs empty. You鈥檝e lost all momentum in your life for work, so let鈥檚 go do another. Let鈥檚 go do another.鈥欌澛

Fast forward to 1993. Mike鈥檚 an experienced bank robber with 13 under his belt. But he got a little sloppy.聽

鈥淚 went to rob a bank in Everett,鈥 Mike said. 鈥淭he guy that was going to do it with me bailed the night before. I had some debts coming up the next day that I was banking on this money for, so I went and did it on my own. What I didn鈥檛 know was people had figured out that we were casing this bank.鈥澛

He barely got inside before the cops showed up. Mike went on to plead guilty and served 13 of a 15-year sentence.聽

Mike tells Gee and Ursula what stops him from turning back to a life of crime

When money gets tight, robbing banks is still tempting. But talking himself out of it is easier.聽

鈥淚鈥檓 two strikes, three strikes, that’s the end of things,鈥 Mike said. 鈥淚鈥檓 married, I have a great wife. I couldn鈥檛 get any better than that. I鈥檝e got great kids, even though they have their own issues. I don鈥檛 need to go down that road.鈥澛犅犅

Mike鈥檚 message to his younger self: Think about the victims.聽

鈥淭he worst thing about crimes like this is the harm you do to the other people on the other side of the counter,鈥 Mike said. 鈥淪ome of these banks I hit twice. One person had to quit their job and get counseling and other things. I hurt people doing this. I would tell myself it鈥檚 not worth it for other people.鈥澛

‘Government telling my kids what to do?’: Gee and Ursula debate Virginia’s new social media law /kiro-opinion/virginias-social-media-law/4087340 Sat, 17 May 2025 12:01:51 +0000 /?p=4087340 A law was passed in Virginia this week that regulates how much time certain users will be able to spend on social media, . According to the media outlet, anyone under 16 years old will have a default limit of one hour per day on social media, with parents having the ability to adjust the time up or down.

Gee Scott, co-host of “The Gee and Ursula Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio, saw the law as an invasion of privacy, while co-host of “Gee and Ursula,” Ursula Reutin, thought the new rule could improve mental health.

“Government telling my kids what to do?” Gee questioned. “Government regulating what goes on in your house?

To which Ursula responded, “Well, they do when it comes to driving cars, right?”

Gee combated Ursula’s response, saying driving cars is a rule of the road versus the government stepping into people’s homes.

Gee against Virginia’s social media law: ‘We’re not doing that’

“No, we’re not doing that, full stop,” Gee said. “Because if you open up that box, then what? Really, you’re gonna have the government tell you, ‘Hey, Mom, Dad, your 16, your 14, 15-year-old can only be on the phone this long.'”

However, Ursula said the law is aimed more toward the companies rather than the parents. She added that the move could foster better mental health among children.

“Anything that you could do to protect our kids a little bit longer and help preserve their childhood, and limit their exposure to social media,” she said. “I think social media is truly having such a negative impact on our youth today, from mental health, from how they feel.”

‘It鈥檚 going to impact every Washingtonian’: $700M Medicaid cuts loom over state /gee-and-ursula/medicaid-cuts-washington/4088631 Fri, 16 May 2025 23:00:16 +0000 /?p=4088631

Washington could lose an estimated $700 million annually if President Donald Trump鈥檚 proposed spending cuts toward Medicaid come to fruition, the Washington State Hospital Association confirmed.

Legislation for these cuts was passed by a House committee Wednesday. Now scheduled for a floor vote next week, the bill calls for billions of dollars in reductions to the Medicaid program nationwide.

“It’s going to impact every Washingtonian, not just those folks who are in Medicaid,” , MSW, MPH, vice president of advocacy and rural health for the Washington State Hospital Association, said on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio. “What that means is the state is going to have to find ways to make up that money, and some of that’s going to go to the state government, and they’re going to have to either decide to reduce benefits or cut people who currently get coverage. Some of that’s going to go directly to providers. That’s long-term care, folks. That’s hospitals. It’s community clinics, and they’re going to have to make choices about what services are offered.”

According to the Washington State Hospital Association, half the births in Washington are under Medicaid. Barton True believes there will be fewer available appointments for both simple and complex health issues, while numerous services will be diminished or cut altogether to make ends meet.

“I think we’ll see hospitals reduce more to their core,” Barton True said. “If you could receive your chemotherapy in a lot of areas around the Seattle region, you might see that get consolidated into one place, and you might have to wait a little bit longer for appointments for your therapies, after a surgery, those sorts of things. I think we’re going to see that we won’t have the same availability across the board that we do now.”

WA covers undocumented individuals through Medicaid

Washington is a state that covers undocumented people within Medicaid, using state-only funds instead of federal money. But, under the Trump administration, any state that is using resources to cover undocumented immigrants will have its federal funding cut, even if the state doesn’t use federal funds for this specific coverage.

Earlier this week, Valley Medical Center closed five clinics, including an urgent care center in Renton. It鈥檚 consolidating two other clinics and closing two hospital units by June 27. The provider estimates that 50% of its 4,000 employees will be affected by the moves, although it is not clear how many will ultimately lose their jobs

According to Barton True, undocumented people do not make up “a huge percentage” of hospital care.

“Immigration is not the business of hospitals,” she added.

“What is your advice to people who are listening right now and hearing that we’re going to take a $700 million hit a year?” Ursula Reutin, co-host of “The Gee and Ursula Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio, asked.

“I would encourage folks to be proactive. Wait times, if these cuts go through, will increase,” Barton True answered. “Make sure you’re getting those things scheduled. The other thing I’ll say is that public policy is important, and there are two Republican members of Washington’s state delegation; there are folks at the federal level who are listening. I encourage folks to reach out to their individual member of Congress. Encourage them to fight back on these cuts. Talk to them about how important health care is, and get engaged in that process.”
