‘You OK?’: Bodycam captures ambush on Lummi Nation officer, shot 7 times

New body camera footage released Thursday shows the harrowing moments just before a Lummi Nation Police Department officer was shot seven times early Monday morning.
The suspect, 26-year-old Jesus Penuelas-Agramon, has since been charged with attempted murder.
The Whatcom County Sheriff鈥檚 Office said it all started when the officer was walking towards a white Ford Ranger he had been following, which veered off the road and rolled into a ditch.

In the camera footage, the officer is heard calling out to the vehicle, 鈥淗ey, you OK? Hello?鈥 As he cautiously approaches, a man is seen crawling out of the flipped truck. The two men are briefly shoulder to shoulder before Agramon allegedly opens fire point-blank. The officer was shot seven times, once in his legs, abdomen, and head. His bulletproof vest stopped one round aimed at his chest.

The injured officer was rushed to a nearby hospital and has since undergone two surgeries. Officials report that he remains in serious but stable condition.
Agramon was taken into custody in Ferndale approximately 12 hours after the shooting, following an extensive manhunt.
He was formally charged on Wednesday with attempted murder, according to the Whatcom County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Investigators said he is a convicted felon with a history of drug offenses and outstanding warrants in Colorado. Charging documents also noted he used multiple aliases.
