Two Thurston County deputies are recovering Wednesday morning after being attacked during an arrest the night before.
The deputies attempted to arrest a person accused of making death threats to a public defender when he became violent while in his driveway. The person under arrest punched one deputy in the ear, which started to bleed, while also attempting to gouge out the other deputy’s eye. According to Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders, the suspect was nearly successful in gouging out the deputy’s eye.
“Both deputies are being treated and are in good spirits with command staff, deputies, and I at the hospital with them,” Sanders wrote on social media.
The suspect kept resisting even after being restrained, prompting law enforcement to use a special WRAP device to stifle his aggressive behavior.
The suspect will face multiple felony charges, including felony harassment and felony assault, once released from the hospital.
