Famed musician and Seattle resident Alan White has died at age 72.

His family says he passed away at his Seattle-area home Thursday after a brief illness.

White had been the drummer for the group “Yes” since 1972 and had a longtime collaboration with John Lennon, including performances on Lennon’s 1970 single “Instant Karma!” the 1971 LP Imagine, and George Harrison’s 1970 triple album All Things Must Pass.

“Throughout his life and six-decade career, Alan was many things to many people: a certified rock star to fans around the world; bandmate to a select few, and gentleman and friend to all who met him,” White’s family wrote on social media.
