Seattle becomes abortion sanctuary city, first in country

Seattle is now the nation’s first abortion rights sanctuary city.

The designation means Seattle Police will not cooperate in arrests or investigations related to abortion bans in other states.

Debate at the City Council was passionate.

The bill is structured like a previous Seattle initiative, which stopped Seattle Police from pursuing charges related to cannabis, which remains a federally illegal substance.

Boeing releases quarterly earnings report below market expectations

A mixed bag from Boeing’s second-quarter earnings report.

The company reported $16.68 billion dollars in revenue for the quarter, slightly less than last year and below market expectations.

But there is good news in the commercial airplanes division, which reported a 3% increase in revenue. Boeing delivered 121 commercial airplanes in the quarter, up from 79 in Q2 last year.

In a statement to workings, CEO David Calhoun said, “Our programs are beginning to meet key milestones and our financials are starting to reflect our efforts. Our team is tested, prepared and ready to deliver – and I am confident in our future.”

Class action suit for deaf patients against Providence Health

Tuesday was the 32nd anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act.

It’s also the day the nonprofit law firm Disability Rights Advocates filed a lawsuit against Providence Health.

The class action suit alleges failure on the part of the health care provider to ensure effective communication with its deaf patients.

It claims patients requesting in person sign language interpretation often don’t receive it, but instead are forced to utilize a virtual interpreter services fraught with technical issues.

The suit wants Providence to remedy the situation and provide more effective policies and procedures.

King County beaches shut down for bacteria infection

Several beaches in King County have been shut down after recent water quality tests came back with high bacteria levels.

County health officials have closed Gene Coulon, Green Lake-East Beach, Hidden Lake, Juanita Beach, Meydenbauer Bay Beach and Newcastle Beach.

King County tests lakes for bacteria concentrations weekly.

Swimmers and pets will be allowed to return to the lakes when bacteria levels are low enough to make it is safe to reopen.

Tree falls ‘out of nowhere’ on woman relaxing underneath

It will be up to arborists with the Seattle Parks Department to figure out why a big tree on the shores of Green Lake suddenly came down Tuesday.

Several people were sitting underneath it at the time, and all, but one woman, described as a “grandmother” were able to get away.

Glen McDevitt tells ³ÉÈËXÕ¾ 7 TV, the tree fell on the woman’s mid-section.

He rushed to her and stayed with her until the medics got there.

A University of Washington Medicine spokeswoman says the injured woman was in the emergency room for hours, but it was unknown if she had to stay overnight.

Her injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening.
