Police picked up a child spotted wandering around a Seattle homeless camp Monday night.
Officers were dispatched to “Nickelsville,” in the and asked the 7-year-old boy about his parents.
“He said he didn’t know where his mom was or when she would return so we took the child into protective custody,” said officer Renee Witt. Police say his mother is a 34-year-old woman, but they don’t know if she’s a resident of the camp.
The boy was wet and hungry, according to Witt. “The child told officers he had not eaten since breakfast, and keep in mind this is 8:30 at night, so of course officers took the child and got him some food.”
On Tuesday, child welfare workers located relatives of the boy and were determining if he could be placed with family members.
