A former Edmonds police officer was immediately placed in handcuffs Monday after a judge sentenced him for having sex with a woman in his custody.
Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Janice Ellis refused to release Daniel Lavely, 48, while he appeals his conviction. He was sentenced to one year in jail. In August, a jury found him guilty of custodial sexual misconduct.
reports the judge chastised Lavely saying he “exploited a vulnerable woman” and disgraced his profession.
Lavely did not speak at the sentencing hearing but at trial, he denied having sex with the woman he detained at a motel in May of last year. He resigned from the Edmonds Police Department in January.
