Threat to Lakewood School District originated on Snapchat

The threatening message that led to the Lakewood School District cancelling classes at all five of its schools originated on Snapchat.
A student in the district received a message to stay home because “someone was going to shoot up the middle school.” The student contacted Lakewood Middle School to warn staff about the message.
A message posted on the says:
In response to this threat, we are cancelling school today October 12, 2016. Law enforcement is on site and looking into this threat. We have sent a message to all of our bus drivers to return students home, and will be going to the bus routes that were not picked up yet to tell students to return home.
The district says a lockdown of the schools and the cancellations were a precaution and no students or staff are in immediate danger.
