Tony Reed was originally charged with murder, but now faces a lesser offense to which he has pleaded guilty in a Snohomish County court.
In court Friday, Tony pleaded guilty to two counts of rendering criminal assistance to his brother John Reed. He said in court that his brother shot married Oso couple — Patrick Shunn and Monique Patenaude. He then helped his brother dispose of the bodies and hide the couple’s cars in an attempt to help John run from police.
Tony faces more than a year in prison for the crime.
The brothers were charged with murder while they were on the run from the law last month. John’s neighbors — Shunn and Patenaude — went missing in April and police believed the brothers had something to do with it. John had a long-standing feud with the couple who were his neighbors.
Tony turned himself into authorities at the California-Mexico border in May and then helped detectives locate the bodies. His murder charge was later dropped.
Tony is just one member of the family that has been drawn into John’s alleged crime. The brothers’ parents have also been hauled to jail and into court for their assistance to the brothers while fleeing police.
John remains on the loose and is believed to be in Mexico.
