An elementary school in Tacoma was evacuated Friday morning when students and staffers got sick from gasoline fumes.
Maintenance crews were using leaf blowers on the roof of Edison Elementary School and exhaust fumes got sucked into the ventilation system, according to school district spokesman Dan Voelpel.
“The fire department transported 47 staff and students to area hospitals as a precautionary measure for treatment of various symptoms, such as nausea, headaches, and dizziness.”
Ambulances were used to transport 29 patients and a school bus was used to take the rest.
The school has set up a system for parents to connect with their children.
