Seattle police investigators have arrested a 28-year-old man believed to have stabbed his mother several times in her Yesler Terrace apartment.
Initial reports indicated the 58-year-old woman was stabbed in her sleep by her own daughter Sunday morning.
But further investigation determined the woman’s son is the actual suspect.
Investigators reported the victim was able to make it to a neighbor’s front door just before 1 a.m.
The neighbor then immediately called 911.
The attack took place in an apartment on E. Fir Street near 11th Avenue.
Police said the woman suffered stab wounds to the neck, face, arm, and leg.
Officers found her on the third floor of the building and began giving her first aid until Seattle Fire medics arrived and took over lifesaving efforts.
An ambulance transported her to Harborview Medical Center, where she is in serious condition, as of this reporting. Police later determined the victim was awakened by an unprovoked attack inside her apartment.
The suspect was arrested near 8th Ave. and Madison Street around 5:30 a.m. Sunday.
The Seattle Police Department considers the attack an incident of domestic violence.
It’s believed the woman was also stabbed in the apartment’s hallway with a butcher knife.
Police launched a search of the neighborhood with assistance from personnel at its Real-Time Crime Center. Domestic Violence Unit detectives are also following up to learn more about a possible motive to try to determine what led to the assault.
