Redmond employee shoots alleged car thief in self-defense near QFC

Police in Redmond are investigating a shooting near the QFC along Redmond Way Sunday night after an employee opened fire at a suspected car thief.
Officers responded to a disturbance involving a gun at approximately 11 p.m. Sunday, the Redmond Police Department confirmed.
An employee of a nearby business allegedly watched a man attempting to steal his own car, and decided to confront him. During the encounter, according to the Redmond Police Department’s preliminary investigation, the employee claimed the suspect became aggressive and advanced toward him. The employee, in legal possession of a handgun, fired at the suspect, striking him in the abdomen once.
The employee stated to police that he acted in self-defense.
The suspect was taken to Harborview Medical Center. His status is unclear, as of this reporting, but no other injuries were reported as no other shots were fired.
The employee is cooperating with the Redmond Police Department.
